Nasceu em 5 de dezembro de 1971 em Tianjin, China.

Akina was born into a dramatic arts family; her father is the chief actor of the Sichuan Repertory Theatre, and her mother is also a stage actor. She joined TVB after participating in the "Miss Hong Kong" campaign in 1994.
